Things To Do In Akumal, Mexico

The Mayan Riviera lends itself to a temperate climate all year round, incredibly beautiful beaches and fun things to see and do around every palm tree. Along with a family-oriented culture; you’ll find lots of things to do in Akumal, Mexico to keep all ages busy and happy!

CENOTES AND CAVES

All around the Yucatan peninsula are natural water pools known as cenotes. Many are underground or partly sheltered by stones; others seem to be rugged, shallow ponds. You can explore the cenotes by scuba diving, hiking or swimming pool, both below and above ground, on your own or through guided excursions, but be prepared for very cold water.

SNORKLING

The coast of the Yucatan peninsula runs parallel to the 2nd most extensive reef system in the world, so it’s undoubtedly worth the effort to go snorkeling! Just about any location along the coast will offer plenty of experience, but Akumal Bay has resident turtles throughout the year and is a definite crowd-pleaser. Equipment is available for rent at the dive shops, as are guided tours in the water.

Yal – Ku Lagoon

Near Half Moon Bay – this fresh water lagoon mixes with salt water to form a halocline. Many schools of tropical fish can also be found in its calm waters.
